The first Lawrence Photo store was opened in Wichita, Kansas in 1888 as a local drug store. The owner, Charles Lawrence, carried a small line of photographic equipment. Lawrence had the first Kodak franchise west of the Mississippi which was signed by Kodak’s founder, George Eastman. After the turn of the century, the drug store became a full line photo supply store. In 1970 Charles Hoag a professional photographer and studio owner in North Central Kansas since 1950, joined the Lawrence Photo staff.
Lawrence Photo & Video of Springfield was opened in July of 1973 with Charles Hoag as the manager and only three employees. The operation continued to grow and expand and outgrew it’s location.

The store was relocated to it’s present location at 2550 S Campbell in 1976. Hoag Enterprises, Inc. purchased the business in 1986 operating under the name of Lawrence Photo & Video, a division of Hoag Enterprises, Inc.
Lawrence Photo & Video continues to be locally owned while serving the Ozarks area with a dedicated staff of eighteen full time associates who have a combined photo experience of over 400 years! The store covers over 10,000 square feet and is stocked with cameras, accessories, camcorders, telescopes, binoculars, professional lighting equipment, enlargers and dark room supplies, over 1000 frame styles, several lines of photo albums, and nearly everything a photo enthusiast would like to own.

The first Lawrence store in Wichita began by selling wet plates to the early photographers.
